Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from the country’s top transportation official. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao will kick off the 2017 Annual Meeting’s General Session in her home state of Kentucky with a Keynote Address on the Administration’s traffic safety policies and priorities.

Safety is at the heart of self-driving technology company Waymo's mission. The company's Director of Safety Ron Medford will provide the latest intelligence on the ever-changing autonomous vehicle (AV) industry and predict what we can expect as the definition of “driver” shifts from human to machine.

Tuesday General Session SpeakersThe past two years have seen alarming increases in the number of people killed on our roads. While alcohol use, excessive speed and lack of seat belt use are still key contributing factors, distracted, drowsy and drugged driving are growing problems. Join key organizational partners, including the National Governors Association, National Safety Council, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police to consider how we can positively impact behavior to improve safety for all road users.

Join us as we honor the people and programs that are working day-in and day-out to improve traffic safety at the local, state and national levels. Get new ideas you can apply to your own work.

 

 

Kentucky Derby

Taste of the State Reception at the Kentucky Derby Museum

6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Mix and mingle with your GHSA colleagues as you experience the region's premier attraction, celebrating the tradition of the Kentucky Derby.

Adjacent to the legendary Churchill Downs Racetrack, the Kentucky Derby Museum takes visitors through every state of a Thoroughbred's life, from birth to the First Saturday in May. Learn about the great history of the race, from the inaugural running in 1875 to the most recent Kentucky Derby champion, and experience the traditions that have transformed the race into what it is today.

Autonomous Vehicle Roundtable

This informal roundtable brings together thought leaders from the auto, ride-sharing and engineering fields to consider the many safety implications – both positive and negative – that varying levels of autonomous vehicles will bring, particularly when they are sharing the road with traditional drivers.
