Membership

GHSA has two tiers of membership: its core State Highway Safety Offices (SHSO) Members and Associate Members.

State Highway Safety Office (SHSO) Members

GHSA's primary members are State Highway Safety Offices (SHSO) that develop and implement state-level highway safety programs. SHSOs pay annual dues to GHSA based on a flat fee as well as a proportional formula that considers state population.

State and territorial governors appoint SHSO directors, who are often referred to as Governors' Representatives – or GRs. These GRs and their designated Highway Safety Coordinators make up the core GHSA membership.

Associate Members

GHSA Associate Members are organizations, associations and businesses that support the goals and objectives of GHSA.

Payment must accompany each application. You will receive a refund if membership is not approved. Any applicant not accepted may reapply after one year. The GHSA membership year runs July 1 through June 30.

Joining GHSA as an Associate Member requires that the applicant agree to support the goals and objectives of GHSA. The Associate Member shall have no right or privilege to vote on Association policies or other organizational matters.

All dues paid by GHSA Associate Members are used to support the general purposes of GHSA including the cost of publications, mailing, development and implementation of training for Association members and research of specific state highway safety issues.

Associate Members enjoy a variety of benefits, and membership dues are tax-deductible (Federal ID# 521021004).
