The 2012 campaign coincided with new advertisements by DOT’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighting unsafe attempts by drivers to fake seat belt use. The accompanying advertisements, which aired nationally May 14-28, offered a humorous take on techniques attempted by drivers trying to fake seat belt use.

GHSA and its State Highway Safety Office (SHSO) members worked closely with law enforcement agencies and other partners to support the mobilization. On May 21, GHSA Vice Chairman John Saunders helped launch the 2012 mobilization at a press event in Washington, D.C.
