Highway Safety Reauthorization
The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) authorized the federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety and transit for the Federal Fiscal Years 2006 - 2009. (Oct. 1 through Sept. 30.)
SAFETEA-LU expired on Sept. 30, 2009 and is currently operating under a special extension through March 31, 2012, as Congress and the Administration work on the next reauthorization.

GHSA Reauthorization Position
GHSA's reauthorization position centers on the ambitious goal of Toward Zero Deaths. Highway deaths are preventable, and with an increase of attention and funding, thousands of families who lose loved ones each year in crashes can be spared this emotional and financial hardship.
GHSA urges policy-makers to support funding for increased enforcement, new technologies and better tools for data collection to launch a new era in highway safety.
