Dr. Linda Degutis

Linda C. Degutis, DrPH, MSN, is Director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Prior to joining CDC in 2010, Dr. Degutis was Research Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and Director of the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness at the Yale School of Public Health. She also leads the Connecticut Partnership for Public Health Workforce Development, part of the New England Alliance for Workforce Development.
Dr. Degutis’ research covers issues related to alcohol and injury, with a particular focus on interventions and policy issues. Her work has been funded by the CDC, National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. She is working on the development of the New England Injury and Violence Prevention Research Collaborative, which brings together injury prevention researchers from various institutions, providing opportunities for collaborative research and educational efforts.
At the Yale School of Public Health, Dr. Degutis worked on on public health workforce education in the area of disaster preparedness, as well as public health systems and services research development, bringing together the practice and research communities. She has partnered with national, state and local coalitions on various efforts that impact public health and public policy and has developed and taught programs on moving from research to advocacy.
Dr. Degutis serves on the Advisory Board of the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship Program and is a member of the Executive Board of Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety. She is a past president of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and served two terms as chair of the APHA Executive Board. She also has been active in the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Degutis received her bachelor’s degree from DePaul University and her MSN and DrPH from Yale University. She was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow, serving in the office of the late Senator Paul Wellstone (D-MN).
