New GHSA Leadership Elected
At the Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, GHSA Members met and elected officers for the next year. The new Chairman is Vernon Betkey of Maryland. Lowell Porter of Washington State is the new Vice Chairman. The new Treasurer is Mike Stout of Illinois, while Dave Beach of Utah is the new Secretary.
Chairman Betkey serves as the Maryland Highway Safety Coordinator and as Chief of the Maryland Highway Safety Office. He is responsible for the state's highway safety program and the application and management of NHTSA funds, and he serves as the project manager for the state's strategic highway safety plan. Prior to this service, he spent more than 25 years with the Maryland State Police. His police career included several command positions and more than seven years of direct interaction, planning and implementation of numerous Maryland highway safety projects and programs. Betkey also served as the law enforcement liaison for the Mid- Atlantic office of NHTSA.
GHSA Chairman Vernon BetkeyBetkey has been extremely active in GHSA, serving as a representative on the Executive Board, as the organization's Treasurer, Vice Chairman and now Chairman. Betkey told the GHSA membership that he was honored to serve and would continue many of the organization's current activities while embarking on some new ventures. Betkey will continue to focus on helping the GHSA membership enhance program development and delivery.

Newly elected Treasurer Mike Stout is the Director of the Illinois Division of Traffic Safety. Secretary Dave Beach is the Director of the Utah Office of Highway Safety. Both Stout and Beach have served on the Executive Board before and have been very active members of GHSA.
