MADD Announces Parent Initiative
MADD’s national president, Laura Dean-Mooney, recently announced a new initiative that will target parents in an effort to keep alcohol away from teenagers. “Kids say that the number one influencer on their decision whether or not to drink alcohol is their parents. MADD knows that parents can influence the decisions of their kids when it comes to alcohol and we want to help empower parents with this message,” stated Dean-Mooney.
The new program, which is sponsored by Nationwide Insurance and will be launched in October, includes two key elements. First is a new website which will address warning signs for parents as well as answers to parents’ toughest questions. The second element is a community-based program which will conduct workshops for parents across the nation. The scientifically-proven method used by the program will reduce underage drinking by teaching parents how to deal with the difficult issue.
