MADD Calls for Traffic Safety Summit
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has called for a summit of traffic safety leaders to renew the focus on proven solutions for addressing impaired driving as well as other behavioral issues.
The summit would seek to build support for MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving and other science-based recommendations. In addition to impaired driving, the summit would focus on what MADD calls a practical and realistic national traffic safety action plan that would move the nation in the same direction.
According to MADD National President Jan Withers, “We need to commit ourselves to working together to support the strongest laws on all issues— drunk driving, distraction, belt use, child seats, teen. This includes the best enforcement of those laws, and broad awareness by the driving public that unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.” Withers also noted, “We must take a comprehensive approach and focus on the countermeasures that will help use our safety resources in the most costbeneficial way. And we must reject doing the things that feel good, but do no good.”
