Federal, State Agencies Ramping Up Pedestrian Safety Efforts

The Governors Highway Safety Association is projecting that 6,721 pedestrians died on U.S. roads in 2020 – a 4.8 percent increase from 2019 despite a drastic drop in vehicle miles traveled. State DOTs continue to work on ways to beef up pedestrian safety. For example, a March report by GHSA noted how several state-directed efforts are successfully improving pedestrian safety.
