      When lockdown orders from the COVID-19 pandemic went into effect across the country, car traffic declined significantly. But research from GHSA shows that even though there were fewer cars on the road during this time, speeding and reckless driving increased.

      Total crash numbers are down in the Commonwealth during the few months we've been in a pandemic, but an uptick in unbelted and speed-related crashes and crash fatalities have increased, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
