With funding from a Ford Driving Skills for Life (Ford DSFL) and GHSA grant, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) co-hosted a Global Youth Traffic Safety Month event with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in May 2018.

The event, hosted at a local high school, brought together students enrolled in Driver’s Education courses from each county in the state for a day of safe driving education. Students attended presentations from law enforcement and safety advocates and participated in interactive stations demonstrating the dangers of impairment, distraction, lack of seat belt use, and fatigue. In addition to DSFL and NTSB, event partners included the Delaware Department of Education, Delaware State Police, SmartDrive Foundation and the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS).

OHS also used this grant to host a contest inviting students to work with their Student Resource Officers and local law enforcement to create Public Service Announcements (PSAs) on how to behave during a traffic stop. Contest winners were awarded scholarships during the Global Youth Traffic Safety Month event.
