Influence of Infrastructure Design on Distracted Driving (BTS-09)

Influence of Infrastructure Design on Distracted Driving, was conducted to develop methodologies (referred to as Safety Frameworks) that can be used by agencies to assess the impact of infrastructure elements on driver distraction. The first phase of the study included a review of existing information about the relationships between distraction and specific infrastructure elements. The second phase of the study focused on developing a set of five conceptual Safety Frameworks to demonstrate the use of the identified data sets in evaluating the association between distracted driving and roadway or roadside infrastructure. This includes both crash data and crash narratives provided by law enforcement officers completing crash reporting forms.
