The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) provides leadership and advocacy for the States and Territories to improve traffic safety, influence national policy, enhance program management and promote best practices.

Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing day-to-day communications and administration for GHSA as well as their contract with the National Law Enforcement Liaison Program (NLELP).


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the day-to-day communications and administration for GHSA’s contract with NLELP. Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Assist with the writing, editing, and production of weekly e-newsletter and quarterly newsletter including facilitating designers and printers
    • Develop email content and distribute via the email marketing system
    • Administer NLELP webinars and meetings including marketing, registration confirmations, practice sessions, on-site coordination and post-event surveys and evaluations
    • Monitor and update the social media accounts and website content; provide monthly reporting of statistics
    • Maintain Law Enforcement Liaison contact information
  • Provide content editing for the GHSA website including day-to-day updates, researching state laws, and changes to programs and funding; provide search engine optimization
  • Provide database management of GHSA’s association systems and lists
  • Assist with communications support for GHSA’s Annual Meeting including the app, newsletters, online content, and other print and digital marketing and communication assets
  • Assist with content sourcing for GHSA communications
  • Assist with telephone coverage
  • Other duties as assigned aligned with the objectives of GHSA

  • 1-2 years of applicable communications experience, required
  • Association/Nonprofit experience, preferred
  • Experience with email marketing system (i.e. Mailchimp), required
  • Experience with Website Content Management systems (i.e. WordPress), required
  • Experience with social media platforms (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, etc.), required
  • Experience with law enforcement/public safety encourage but not required


  • Bachelor's Degree, required
