Summary
The Deputy will serve as a principal advisor to the Associate Administrator for Safety on enforcement, compliance, and passenger carrier, hazardous materials programs, household goods, Commercial Driver’s License, state programs (grants), and border initiatives, and overall agency safety and compliance initiatives.
Duties
The Deputy Associate Administrator for Safety oversees the Director of Enforcement and Compliance along with the Director of Safety Programs which are responsible for providing policy direction for agency enforcement, compliance and safety programs and executive leadership to FMCSA's field workforce in its implementation of these programs nationwide; participates as a key member of the Associate Administrator's staff in establishing broad policies, program priorities, and overall resource allocations. This organization has a total staff of approximately 900 FTE located in headquarters and the field.
The Deputy will support the Associate Administrator and the Office of Safety with executive direction and leadership to the agency's implementation and administration of compliance, enforcement and safety programs through a network of four Service centers, 52 Division Offices and 26 border facilities. This includes supporting the execution of the agency's safety investigations and interventions, commercial motor vehicle (CMV) inspections (primarily at the U.S. – Mexico border) and programs for commercial passenger, and hazardous material (HM) motor carriers, vehicle and drivers and security, and household goods (HHG) movements.
The Deputy will provide safety oversight of over 750,00 registered motor carriers and prioritizes employee resources to identify motor carriers who exhibit adverse safety risk behaviors and coordinates with Regional Field Administrators to ensure investigations are timely, thorough, consistent, and fair. The Deputy will also assure regulations are effectively carried out, enforced and a quality public outreach program is fashioned in all areas of consumer protection. Oversees the Director, Office of Safety programs to ensure the execution of $390 million in annual grants to state and local governments, non-profits, educational institutions, training providers and safety associations.
