Position Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for SADD National staff, development, programs, and execution of its mission.

Role & Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Ensure ongoing national programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems
  • Recommend and oversee the implementation of short- and long-term timelines and resources needed to achieve the organization’s strategic goals as approved by the Board
  • In partnership with SADD National leadership and field staff, ensure the use of effective prevention strategies and best practices regarding SADD programs, resources, and campaigns for national distribution; demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of evidence-based prevention programs, policies, or practices, and a knowledge of or experience with positive youth development
  • Actively engage and energize SADD students, SLC, volunteers, board members, committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders
  • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as an ex-officio member of each committee; seek and build board involvement in strategic directions and development initiatives
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain SADD National staff
  • Represent the organization on the national stage, participate on national task forces, testify to Congress or federal agencies, develop position statements and other comments on issues
  • Act as a liaison with other organizations in the youth health and safety field
  • Advise and counsel the Chairman of the Board, Board Committees, and the SADD National Board of Directors in the creation of policies, programs, and strategic direction of the corporation
  • Ensure effective systems to track progress, and regularly evaluate operation components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents

Fundraising & Resource Development

  • With Development staff and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for fundraising initiatives and projects, ensuring the development of new income revenues, and maintaining a broad, diverse funding base
  • Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support new and existing program operations
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations -- to create a stronger, more visible brand
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities and reinforce the mission and work of the organization
  • Be a national presence that publishes and communicates research and program results

Budget & Finance

  • Manage budget development, budget tracking, monitoring, and reporting
  • With the designated staff, maintain cost controls, take responsibility for accounts receivable/payable, oversee the annual audit performed by an independent auditor, and gain board approval of the final assessment
  • Ensure all organizational and federal/state/local identifiers are kept up to date and active for taxation, compliance, regulatory, and other administrative purposes
  • Handle initiation and development of contracts with consultants and funding partners; review processing requests for payments or reimbursements

Organizational

  • Plan and conduct Board meetings, including overseeing logistical arrangements for Board-related activities and events and maintaining relevant project-related files. Responsible for timely reports to the Board
  • Coordinate with staff and volunteers the development of organizational marketing materials, which include: articles for SADD newsletters, brochures, reports, website updates, and other materials as specified by the Board
  • Oversee the implementation of SADD’s strategic plan, regularly reporting to the Board on progress made and refreshing the plan in the years ahead to ensure SADD is a sustainable, credible organization empowering young people to successfully confront the risks and pressures that challenge them in their daily lives
  • Serve as the public face of SADD at external events and in response to media inquiries. Represent SADD at external meetings related to the work of the organization. Testify or provide comment to ongoing legislative issues related to the work of the organization. Be present and actively involved in the work of the organization, particularly with the students Nationwide, to provide the utmost example of leadership
