2026 Winner: Sudden Impact Program

Sudden Impact Program

The Sudden Impact Program, developed by the University Medical Center New Orleans and the Louisiana State Police, and supported by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, was recognized for outstanding leadership in advancing traffic safety and injury prevention across Louisiana.

Through hospital-based education, strong medical and law enforcement partnerships, statewide collaboration, and data-driven programming, these initiatives have expanded from local efforts into a comprehensive network reaching thousands of young drivers, families, schools, hospitals, first responders, and community partners.

By addressing teen driver safety, impaired and distracted driving, occupant protection, child passenger safety, and evidence-based policy and training, the program has produced measurable improvements in knowledge, behavior, seat belt use, child restraint access, and statewide safety outcomes, demonstrating a sustained commitment to reducing preventable motor vehicle crash injuries and fatalities.
