Youth Active Transportation Safety Grant Result: Oregon

In 2024-2025, through the support of the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF), GHSA awarded a $25,000 grant to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to expand their bike safety education in rural Douglas County through the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program led by Thrive Umpqua, in partnership with the Douglas Education Service District (DESD).

Make Way for Pumas!

For three months, from August through October, Hood River County has created a temporary Puma Path to Mid Valley Elementary with paw stencils and a crosswalk to reduce safety concerns of Odell Highway and inspire students to walk a half mile from the Mud Alley neighborhood to school in a weekly “walking bus” with their peers and caregivers.
