Project Overview

Status: Completed (published as BTSCRP Research Report 9 in October 2023)

This research project identified emerging behavioral safety issues arising from the expanding use of e-scooters, both rental and privately owned, and developed comprehensive guidance to help affected agencies plan for and mitigate related safety problems. The guidance includes tools, policy alternatives, educational materials, institutional requirements, and other relevant techniques to mitigate if not eliminate identified risk

Youth Active Transportation Safety Grant Result: Washington

In 2024-2025, GHSA partnered with the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF) to provide a $25,000 grant to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) to launch a new bi-county pedestrian and bicycle education program for Pre-K through middle school students in Garfield and Asotin Counties, two rural counties in Washington.

Youth Active Transportation Safety Grant Result: Oregon

In 2024-2025, through the support of the National Road Safety Foundation (NRSF), GHSA awarded a $25,000 grant to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to expand their bike safety education in rural Douglas County through the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program led by Thrive Umpqua, in partnership with the Douglas Education Service District (DESD).
