Framework for Assessing Potential Safety Impacts of Automated Driving Systems (BTS-07)

ADAS
January 1, 2019

The publication presents a framework and strategic approach for the safety profession to consider in developing and implementing new design criteria and operational approaches that consider these technological advances.

Project Overview

is research project reviewed and documented existing and anticipated future changes to the vehicle fleet. With this information, researchers developed an outline of how these changes will likely affect safety performance over time and what potential changes to design and operational criteria could be developed to maximize the potential benefits.

The research was used to develop a framework and strategic approach for the safety profession to consider in developing and implementing new design criteria and operational approaches that consider these technological advances.

Effects of Pre-hospital Blood Programs and Improved EMS Response Time on the Risk of Motor Vehicle Crash Mortality (BTS-43)

The objective of this research is to determine the accuracy of the FARS estimate that 40 percent of motor vehicle fatalities were alive at the scene by reviewing a sample of motor vehicle fatalities who did not die at the scene to determine if improved interventions, such as the availability of pre-hospital care options, blood products, and improved response times would improve survivability.
