The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) is seeking a full-time Senior Manager, Member Education & Events. The Senior Manager, Member Education & Events plays an integral role in delivering the highest-caliber experience for GHSA Members and other constituents by helping to plan, implement and manage GHSA educational offerings and events, including the association’s Annual Meeting, the nation’s premier safety conference. This position will also handle logistics for State Highway Safety Office conferences that GHSA’s Consulting Services Initiative has been contracted to plan and/or manager. Duties include:

Online Member Education (25%)

  • Manage logistics for online educational offerings, including webinars, information exchanges, forums and other e-learning activities. Tasks include, but are not limited, to:
    • Work with the Director of Member Education to develop content and identify speakers for educational offerings and handle all scheduling tasks. Identify the appropriate content delivery platform (e-learning) for each offering and serve as the technical lead.
    • Confirm speakers and serve as the logistics point of contact.
    • Collaborate with GHSA’s communications staff to develop and disseminate promotional/registration information and post content on the website following initial delivery.
    • Develop and disseminate post-event information to registrants, including satisfaction surveys.
    • Remain current on best practices and current trends in online educational programs, including new technology.  

Events (70%)

  • Manage logistics for GHSA’s events to ensure their successful execution, including the Annual Meeting, the Executive and Emerging Leaders Seminars (conducted in-person), quarterly Board meetings, and staff and Board events. Tasks included, but are not limited to:
    • Support fundraising by developing and executing innovative strategies to increase Annual Meeting exhibit hall traffic and broaden sponsorship exposure for meetings and educational offerings.
    • Participate in brainstorming and other efforts to support the development of new partnerships and funding sources for GHSA events.
    • Occasionally attend events with the CEO or other staff, which may include partner events or those hosted by convention and visitors bureaus.
    • Contribute to marketing efforts to help bolster registration, sponsorship and exhibit booth sales.
    • Work with the Director of Member Education and CFO to develop and monitor event budgets.
    • Lead the venue selection process by submitting research-based proposals for consideration and manage contract negotiations for venues and related services, including food and beverage, hotel and meeting rooms, A/V and all other related services.
    • Source and develop relationships with vendors and execute all vendor management, including managing the hotel room block.
    • Work with the Director of Member Education to help staff the Annual Meeting Planning Committee and review workshop proposals. Serve as the logistics point of contact for general session and workshop speakers and manage special needs or requests. 
      o    Develop and disseminate event logistical information and plans in collaboration with GHSA staff leads.
      o    Track and analyze data to provide pre- and post-event reports.
  • Other administrative tasks and duties as assigned, aligned within the objectives of GHSA (5%).

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of progressive experience in member education and event management. A bachelor’s degree is required; a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification, preferred. Experience working in a nonprofit or an association is preferred. Experience managing federal and state contracts, preferred. The position requires up to 15% travel.

GHSA represents the state and territorial highway safety offices that implement programs to address behavioral and highway safety issues, including occupant protection, impaired driving and speeding. GHSA provides leadership and advocacy for the States and Territories to improve traffic safety, influence national policy, enhance program management, and promote best practices.
