The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) is seeking a full-time Senior Staff Accountant. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for providing operational support for GHSA’s financial, operational and accounting activities. In addition, this position provides support in preparing financial reports, maintaining the general ledger, and assisting with audit preparations. The position handles a high volume of assignments with varying complexity and must balance competing priorities while working efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced professional environment. The Senior Staff Accountant collaborates with GHSA’s leadership team to ensure business success and execution of GHSA’s Mission and Vision. Duties include:

  • Coordinate accounting functions and programs
  • Prepare financial analyses and reports
  • Prepare revenue projects and forecasting expenditures
  • Assist with preparing and monitoring budgets
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivables
  • Manages Payroll
  • Assist with month end close
  • Assist with annual audit & 990 preparations
  • Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance
  • Ensures compliance with  federal, state, local, and special tax returns and licenses
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures
  • Assist with annual 1099 filing
  • Serves as liaison with GHSA States financial offices, vendors, and contracts.
  • Support the administration of GHSA benefits and HR processes including new hire onboarding and offboarding, open enrollment and updates to employee benefits
  • Perform other accounting duties as required or assigned, aligned within the objectives of GHSA

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of applicable financial experience. A bachelor’s degree is required, a finance degree is desirable. Experience working in a nonprofit or an association is desirable. Experience with One Drive, Microsoft Office, Naylor, Bill.com, Intacct, Concur, Workforce ADP, Payroll, are also desirable. The position requires less than 5% travel.

GHSA represents the state and territorial highway safety offices that implement programs to address behavioral and highway safety issues, including occupant protection, impaired driving and speeding. GHSA provides leadership and advocacy for the States and Territories to improve traffic safety, influence national policy, enhance program management, and promote best practices.
