In 2017, Ford Driving Skills for Life (Ford DSFL) awarded the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office (NDOT-HSO) a grant to support the state's teen driving efforts. NDOT-HSO used this grant to host two events in Lincoln and Papillion to teach local teens the importance of safe driving behaviors.

The half-day events included a host of interactive simulations and driving courses designed to help students understand risks and avoid crashes. Activities included road courses demonstrating the dangers of distracted and impaired driving, as well as a rollover simulator to show the importance of seat belt use. Educational stations taught participants about the limited viewing zone from a semi-truck and what to do when pulled over by law enforcement. The events also provided information on Ford DSFL resources. Students were awarded a certificate of completion for participating in the event, and were eligible to receive prizes including scholarships, gift cards, t-shirts, and flash drives filled with safe driving resources.

Through these interactive simulators and stations, NDOT-HSO's events successfully showed young drivers the advanced skills necessary to safely navigate the road and the need to engage in safe behaviors behind the wheel.
